Understanding the approach
Laparoscopy uses a camera and small abdominal incisions to examine or operate inside the pelvis. It may form part of assessment or treatment for selected gynaecological conditions. The right approach depends on the diagnosis and your overall health; a small-incision technique is not suitable for every situation.
A considered surgical discussion
- Why a procedure is being considered and what alternatives exist
- The planned operation, anaesthesia and possible risks
- How previous surgery or future pregnancy plans may affect decisions
- Preparation, discharge arrangements and follow-up
Planning for your own circumstances
Bring relevant scans, previous operation records and your medicine list. Ask what the operation aims to address, what it may not resolve and how the plan could change during surgery. Recovery and return to work vary with the procedure and the person.
A consultation before a decision
An appointment is an opportunity to review your reports and discuss whether a laparoscopic approach is appropriate. It does not commit you to an operation.
